27. PUNNGAR — END PIECE OF THE ONLY H7-MELT BRECCIA
H7-melt breccia
Lampung, Indonesia (5°00’22.4"S, 105°16’11.9"E)
Fell January 28, 2021 / TKW: 6.6 kg
On January 28, 2021, southern Sumatra experienced repeated loud booms that shook the homes of residents and were of sufficient intensity to be picked up by Indonesia’s Tsunami Early Warning System. A 2.2 kg meteorite which subsequently crashed through a roof was submerged in water in the belief the water now possessed healing properties. Only five stones were recovered from this event whose TKW is a mere 6.6 kilograms. Punngar is the only H7-melt breccia in the literature. To this author, there is not another meteorite that looks quite like this. The lead-hued matrix hosts zones of metallic grains that evoke an enstatite as well as bands of metal which hint Portales Valley’s morphology. This elongated endpiece from the main mass is one of only three known endpieces of Punngar known to exist; two of the five stones from the Punngar event remain uncut. For the more sophisticated collector, this is an exemplary specimen of this singularly unusual meteorite.
