40. FOUR CORNERS — PARTIAL SLICE OF A SOUGHT-AFTER AMERICAN METEORITE

IAB-ung
Four Corners, Navajo Nation, Utah (37° 0'N, 109° 3'W)
Found 1924 / TKW 25 kg

The Four Corners meteorite was found in Utah 102 years ago a half mile from the Four Corners Monument in the Navajo Nation — the only locality where four states intersect at one point: Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Four Corners is composed of a unique matrix of polycrystalline iron-nickel along with graphite, troilite and schreibersite. While it’s an octahedrite, silicate inclusions are dispersed throughout hence the IAB-ungrouped classification. Difficult to obtain, Four Corners is a notable addition to any collection.
