11. STEINBACH — METEORITE EXOTICA AND A PILLAR OF GREAT COLLECTIONS
Anomalous iron – IVA-anom
Karl-Marx-Stadt, Germany
Found 1724 / TKW: 98 kg
(Similar to lot 7 but larger) Steinbach was first found in 1724 before meteorites were believed to exist. It is also one of the very few IVA anomalous irons as IVA irons are almost always purely metallic while Steinbach is filled with silicate inclusions. Difficult to obtain, Steinbach is a cornerstone of all major European collections — and not just. This slightly rectangular partial slice has a Natural History Museum (London) provenance and is an exemplary example of a singularly illustrious meteorite.
