35. ETTER PARTIAL SLICE
L5
Etter, Moore County, Texas
Found 1965 / TKW: 153.3 kg
In what was a small strewn field — indicative of a trajectory largely perpendicular to its point of impact in the Texas panhandle — several stones comprising 153.3 kg of material were recovered while ploughing in 1965. Etter has an unusually low CRE (cosmic ray exposure) age of 1.7 Ma which implies its journey between its parent body and Earth was relatively brief. As a result of it being among the most massive L5s on record, Etter is a cornerstone in the world’s great meteorite collections. This specimen is from the American Meteorite Laboratory and is accompanied by an original catalog card. The rim of the specimen is marked with the specimen ID “H47.129”.
