L4
Tiris Zemmour, Mauritania (25°54’48” N, 7°30’43” W)
Possible Fall  November 6, 2021 / TKW: 5.45 kg

Numerous residents in the Dakhla Refugee Camp just south of Tindouf experienced a deafening sonic boom in the early afternoon of November 6, 2021. This sonic phenomenon was also heard in both nearby Mauritania and Western Sahara. A short time later numerous extremely fresh meteorites were recovered in northern Mauritania close to the border region.

While the Meteorite Bulletin reports a TKW of 5.45 kg, please note closer to 150 kg of material was ultimately recovered. Now offered is a terrific example of an inexpensive freshly fallen meteorite wrapped in 80+% charcoal-hued fusion crust. An aesthetic broken face accents the front of the specimen while the base exhibits secondary crust.

62 x 92 x 49mm (2.5 x 3.66 x 2 in.) and 399 grams (0.75 lbs).
