LOT 41
Sikhote-Alin Meteorite — Oriented Complete Meteorite
Iron, coarse octahedrite
Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia

Like the aforementioned lot, this splendid meteorite is from the terrifying Siberian phenomenon previously described: the largest meteorite shower of the last several thousand years. Blanketed with fusion crust and, regmaglypts and further textured with tell-tale flow lines, this aesthetic example dramatically reveals its membership in the rare class of oriented meteorites—unlike the vast majority of all meteorites, it did not tumble while it streaked to Earth.

As would be imagined, the different sides of an oriented meteorite have a distinctly different character and indeed, except for frozen channels of what were streams of molten material, the reverse is largely flat. The animated regmaglypts evident on the face are absent. Near the peak of this meteorite is yet another rarity, a small naturally formed hole. With a Macovich Collection provenance, this is a terrific palm-sized meteorite.

98 x 72 x 33mm (4 x 3 x 1.25in) and 447.9 grams (1.0 pounds)
Estimate: $2,000 - 3,000
