PARTICLES OF MARS IN A VIAL — NWA 5790, THE NEWEST SCIENTIFICALLY ACCREDITED MARTIAN METEORITE
SNC (nakhlite)
Mauritania / Erfoud, Morocco
This vial contains particles of NWA 5790—which is a nakhlite (a particularly rare type of Mars rock). When meteorites are subdivided for analysis and distribution to researchers and private collections, material is —lost— in the subdividing process when tiny grains fall away. In the fragmenting of 5790—the newest Martian meteorite acknowledged by the Meteoritical Bulletin—the tiny fragments were captured and reclaimed, resulting in this sample of pure Mars. Accompanied by a copy of the forthcoming Meteoritical Bulletin in which it is described and also contains a letter of certification by the technician who performed the fragmenting and reclamation.
Vial: 33 x 8 x 8mm; Grains of Mars: 0.5 grams
